You can call me Professor Mel
Hi, cuties! Lots to catch up on. It’s been over a month since we last chatted. Who knew that working full-time, posting on YouTube, hosting a podcast, and writing a newsletter would be so much work?!? Just kidding. I’m doing my best here.
Let’s recap February, shall we? It was an incredibly busy month, but things are really starting to look up (so pleased to say that). As you may know, if you follow me on other platforms, January was rough for me. I’m used to life’s highs and lows but starting off the year in a low was challenging. I commited to having a better February and I did! Some things that I did in February to help me have a better month include:
I started walking outside again (I only did a handful of walks in February but I honestly didn’t walk outside all winter so this was an improvement)
I completed a low-spend challenge so I had to process my emotions instead of masking them by spending money
I was intentional about spending time with Mac and being present (we started a nightly tea ritual together, we went cross-country skiing and we played crib a couple of times)
I exercised 12 times in February (a mix of outdoor walks, gym sessions and that one cross-country skiing session)
I continued to limit my alcohol consumption (I only had 2 drinks all month! I had one margarita (spicy coconut margarita) and one beer)
I went to therapy once at the top and I worked with my therapist on some strategies for disconnecting from work during my off-hours
It’s a work in progress but I’m proud of the steps I’ve taken this month to improve my mental health. If you are also going through it, remember that small steps can lead to big changes. I’m continuing this work into March. I’ll keep you posted on my progress. Progress > perfection.
Something really exciting happened in February as well: I gave a guest lecture! Yes, you can now call me Professor Mel. I couldn’t be more grateful for this opportunity. What’s cool about this too is that the professor (shout out to you, Jamie!) slid into my Instagram DMs. She had been following me for a bit, and she was looking for someone with different experience than her to come into her strategic social media course at Mount Royal University (part of the PR program there).
Let’s also chat about my low-spend challenge. I’m not going to lie, I absolutely slayed the challenge and I think it really helped me to reset my habits. In February, I was able to spend less than HALF of what I normally spend in a month. I also spent less than $100 on anything non-essential in the month.
More recently, I went to Vancouver for 52 hours for a solo work trip. I co-hosted an influencer event for one of our clients, Tacofino at their new location in Burnaby. The event went off without a hitch and I got to enjoy a bunch of personal time in Vancouver as well. Catch my trip over on YouTube!
I hope you are having a wonderful almost Spring. All for now!
Mel xoxo
